Overview

Imagine peace & tranquillity in the most beautiful surroundings of the Algarve, Portugal. Since 2010 Shaini Verdon has organised Iyengar Yoga retreats. The retreats are based around the pillars of Movement, Nourishment & Nature. 'Movement' through Yoga & Surf. 'Nourishment' with organic local meals straight from farm to plate and through mindful awareness & wellness. 'Nature' by keeping the retreats close to nature and hosting in the most sustainable & ecological way. Throughout the year on specific dates, she welcomes small groups for this amazing experience in a stunning location on the south-west coast of the Algarve, close to the most beautiful beaches.

Come and experience a great, nourishing mixture of superb Iyengar yoga, a cooking workshop, a mindfulness session, best massages & the best healthy, nutritious, yummy food. The retreat is set up in such a way that everyone gets what they are looking for choosing from our packages.

During the retreats, the groups will be kept small no more than 8-10 surfing yogis, so that everyone gets the personal attention they need and the right ambience to become friends.

Our location

This retreat is held at the charming luxury Quinta. It is located just 450 meters away from the vast, 14 kilometre long, golden-sand beach of Meia-Praia, in Lagos, Algarve of Portugal. It is quietly nestled within a walled 7,500 square meter area surrounded by pines and cypresses, providing the most exceptional tranquillity and privacy. It is a private family-owned home in its fourth generation and has charming indoor and outdoor characteristics. It is an example of 1940s regional architecture, and in it, you will find plenty of rooms and spaces where you can ease off and have the perfect retreat. The stunning and very private outside space offers two "chill-out" areas where you can lay down and take a break, a swimming pool and a beautiful outdoor dining area.

In line with our sustainable ethics, the house is backed up by solar power, has plenty of seasonal fruit trees (apples, figs, pomegranates, lemons, loquats and pine nuts) and a garden where organic crops grow throughout the year and used in our delicious meals. If the fruits are ripe, you are welcome to pick them from trees.

There will be twice daily Iyengar yoga classes, aligning the body, mind & being. We start the morning with a more invigorating class, working through alignment principles connecting the intelligence of the brain with the space of the heart. In the evening after a splendid day of surf, there will be a restorative session, calming the senses & relaxing the body. The surf will give you a chance to connect with the Ocean & see some of the most beautiful beaches around. Connecting this all together is the wonderful food we will share. Menu

Come and ignite your taste buds during our retreats with all the delicious plant-based meals. All prepared with fresh, local, mostly organic ingredients & most important Love! Without any added processed sugars or other processed ingredients.

All the food during the yoga retreat is local and organic comes either straight from the organic farms down the road or from the farmers market. This means that most of the waste is biodegradable, and for any other waste, there will be a full-on recycling program. There is also a towel & sheet program so that there will be no waist with the washing machine.

Our amazing Portuguese chefs Ana & Xana will be cooking all the delicious meals during the week, lovingly preparing all the food, creating mouthwatering delicious meals from breakfast to dinner & dessert.

If there are any other dietary allergies or intolerances please let us know before you book, as we will try to accommodate for them as good as we can.

Instructors

Shaini Verdon

Shaini is the organiser of Yogaion retreats. She is an introductory level 2 IYENGAR® yoga teacher.

Her love for yoga started in the year 2000 after being in the field of dancing, fitness & martial arts since a very young age. Following different yoga styles, her heart eventually lay with IYENGAR® Yoga. After passing her introductory level 2 certification, she is currently studying for her IYENGAR®Yoga Junior 1 level. She is immensely fascinated by how the human body moves & feels that creating greater range of movement is the best way to live a more fulfilled life so that you can enjoy the things you really love. Therefore she is also studying to become a corrective exercise specialist and is practising the FRC® & Kinstretch® method.

She also has a deep passion for the feminine side of yoga, working with the female cycles to encourage female health & create a profound connection to our ever-changing bodies. Her connection to the female side of Yoga started when she suffered for a long time from undiagnosed endometriosis of which she was finally able to heal herself through a combination of allopathic medicine, alternative medicine including diet, cycle awareness & herbal medicine but mostly through her yoga practice which gave her an immersed sensitivity to her own body.

​She is forever a student, practicing mainly with different renowned IYENGAR® teachers of whom she greatly respects Carrie Owerko for her ongoing exploration of the human body, Bobby Clennell for her immense contribution of female health, including her books, within the IYENGAR® method, Christian Pisano for his profound depth of Yoga and her main teacher Billy Konrad who aids her tremendously on this path of adventure & exploration.

Her teaching is based on creating awareness through exploration. Mobility & stability within the body & soul through movement, exploration, playfulness & alignment. Through verbal and precise hands-on adjustments and bringing awareness into the practice, she creates a warm, joyful, safe & loving space.
