Waves, Wilderness & Wellness - 7-day Yoga & Nature Retreat - Costa Rica

Costa Rica

Highlights

Connect closely with nature Dive deeper into your yoga practice Two rejuvenating yoga sessions daily

Overview

The intention of this retreat is to reconnect to your true self by getting you into the natural world. This Waves, Wilderness, and Wellness retreat will do exactly that… All with the help of Mother Nature. We have all gone through extreme challenges over the recent year (or more). These challenges have possibly pulled you away from your self care and made you focus more on other things and less on yourself. This intensive 7-day retreat is designed to return your focus inward. Our wildlife expert will guide you through the jungle where you will come across some of the most amazing plant, fungi, and wildlife species on the planet. You will experience Mother Nature in an entirely new and unique way. Yoga will be held in a beautiful shala overlooking the Pacific Ocean twice daily. The yoga will be mostly Hatha, incorporating Iyengar and Vinyasa Yoga styles. Due to the heat and humidity of the area, you can expect every class to feel like a hot yoga class. This is perfect for those looking for a detox or a fresh start. By the end of the retreat, you will feel rejuvenated, realigned, and reconnected with the natural world.

This retreat will cycle through many styles of Hatha yoga including Iyenger, Vinyasa, Yin, Power, and Flow Yoga. Jaren will combine these styles of yoga to create a peaceful, grace filled experience, individualized for each student. This retreat is an intensive yoga retreat that is suitable for all levels. Prepare to really deepen your yoga practice during this 7-day retreat.

We will use the majestic sounds of the rainforest and the neighboring ocean to connect with Mother Nature during our sessions, connecting breath and movement.

Each yoga session can be looked at as a hot yoga class due to the extreme humidity levels and heat of this Tropical Rainforest.

Activities

Day 1:

The retreat will begin in Puerto Jimenez, where you will be transported from the airport/bus station to the ecolodge, with beautiful views along the way of jungle. Once you are checked into your room, you will be able to enjoy the jungle and ocean views around the lodge. At 6pm, we will all gather for a meet and greet session before our 6:30pm dinner provided by professional chefs. After dinner, we will answer any questions that may come up and go over everything you need to know before our restorative yoga session at 8:00pm to release some tension from your travels.

Day 2:

We will wake up bright and early around 6am. This will give you time to do your morning routine before we meet in the Shala at 7am for our 1-hour yoga class. Breakfast will be offered buffet style until 9am so you can come as you’d like to the restaurant for breakfast. Around 9:30am we will venture into the rainforest with our wildlife expert Mark Fernley. We will be on the lookout for all things wild! Anything from Scarlet Macaws to tree frogs to the many species of monkey found in the area. After our walk, we will return to the lodge just in time for you to relax before lunch which will be served at 1pm each day. After lunch, you will have time to enjoy the beach, join Mark on another nature trek, or simply relax around the lodge at your leisure. We will meet back at the yoga shala at 4:30pm for an hour and a half long yoga session, followed by dinner at 6:30pm. After dinner each night, Mark will offer a night walk through the forest in search of nocturnal wildlife. This is exciting because most animals in the rainforest are most active after dark!

 Day 3:

We will have an early wake-up call at 4:30am. We will begin our morning with a sunrise kayaking excursion. We will return to the lodge for breakfast at 8:30am. After breakfast, we will have time to let our food settle before our 9:30am, one hour yoga session. You will then have time to soak up some sun on the beach, relax around the lodge, journal, etc. before lunch. After lunch, Mark will take us out into the jungle again in search for some of the most colorful animals in the world. We will return to the lodge for our 4:30pm hour and a half yoga session. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm. After, you will have the choice of joining Mark on a night walk or staying around the lodge to relax.

Day 4:

We will wake up bright and early around 6am. This will give you time to do your morning routine before we meet in the Shala at 7am for our 1-hour yoga class. After yoga, you can enjoy breakfast at the restaurant until 9am. At 9:30am, Mark will offer yet another exciting walk through the jungle in search of wildlife. We will return for lunch. After lunch you will have the option to take a walk where the beach meets the jungle, where we can hopefully spot a different variety of wildlife. Yoga will be held in the shala at 4:30pm for an hour and a half workshop focusing on inversions, balancing, and advanced postures. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm. After dinner, Mark will offer a night walk.

Instructors

Jaren Arellano

Hello! My name is Jaren Arellano and I am the founder of Into Nature Yoga Retreats. I am originally from the United States, as I was born in Michigan, and grew up in North Carolina. My childhood consisted of gymnastics, gymnastics, and well, more gymnastics. When I wasn't in the gym, you could find me outside playing with the farm animals or playing in the woods with my sister. I have always wanted to have a career that involved being outside, surrounded by as many animals as possible, but I also knew that with so much knowledge about the human body and movement, it would be a shame to let that all fade out of my life.

When I was about 17 years old, I moved to college with an open mind, ready to take on whatever new things came my way. I attended my first yoga class at a local gym and immediately, I was hooked! I started to study different styles of yoga; tried out different studios and teachers, I found what I liked, I found what I didn't like. I soon realized that yoga was so much more than what it looks. Yoga is so much more than balance and flexibility. Yoga is the connection of your mind, your breath, your movements, your soul. Yoga is your interpretation of how you see the world. Yoga is a mindset that allows you to look at this beautiful world with positivity and light. Yoga is being happy with life as it is.

I started living my life differently. With a whole new perspective, I was ready to make changes. I had always wanted to travel and see natures wonders and wildlife around the world. So that is what I did. I travelled to the Amazon Rainforest of Peru to photograph the wildlife, and wow! My life has never been the same. When I was there, I met my future husband. Together we run wildlife photography workshops, tours, and safaris around the world. Mark is a professional wildlife photographer and tour guide, while I manage all of the logistics and operations.

So we put our minds together to create Into Nature Yoga Retreats. Nature and Wildlife Infused Yoga Retreats. The perfect path for me. I can share my passion for nature and yoga with others in some of the most amazing natural locations in the world. I am the retreat leader, while Mark is the nature guide and wildlife specialist. Together we make a great team and we love sharing our experiences with you.
