This year, Vagabond Temple’s Annual European retreat in Portugal is all about clearing the mind and realigning ourselves with the true values of life: happiness, compassion, kindness, and love.
In the modern world, we often find ourselves living in a state of constant stimulation, movement, and doing. This lifestyle can cause us to feel disconnected, restless, and even meaningless – we forget how to simply be.
This retreat will focus on the traditional Tibetan Buddhist practice of Lojong, a form of practice that involves refining and purifying our motivations and attitudes towards ourselves, our environment, and our life in general. This powerful practice helps us to let go of attachments, establish witness consciousness and to cultivate the heart wisdom.
We will dive deep into the text on the 8 verses of mind training–a set of antidotes to undesired mental habits that hold us back and cause suffering, as well as methods to expand our viewpoint and develop our ability to relate to ourselves and the world in a more constructive, compassionate way.
Our home will be a beautiful holistic retreat centre set in a small valley in the forested hills of Central Portugal. Far from the crowds, the centre is a lovingly restored hundred year old manor house with wonderful views of the valley. We hope you will enjoy the stunning views and take a walk through the local forests. During our time together, we encourage you to take a break from any devises that will distract from immersing yourself in the natural beauty of your new surroundings and your experience with Wachuma.

We serve various raw and vegan dishes in our standard vegetarian menu, please let us know if you require Vegan only before you arrive.
We make low sugar Jams from most of the fruit, which is served with breakfasts. Some of the Veggies we pickle to produce things like Gherkins, Chutneys, preserves which we serve with lunch.
Then, we 'grow' varieties of Yogurts, to serve with fresh fruit salad, and milk Kefir for probiotics. Then we also make our own: Water-Kefir and Pear-ale, (both flavoured with healing ginger) and Lemon squash, and elderflower syrup which all make a refreshing cold drink. We also grow Kombucha to provide yet another healthy drink for our guests, who wish to fill their gut with all the good bacteria required for building a healthy immune system. Mung bean sprouts, soaked raw oaks, raw gazpacho soup and smoothies helps to eat healthy raw food without thinking about it. In addition, we make and serve plenty of fermented raw foods to boost your microbiome. The home-made bread is made from sour-dough we grow and 'Herman' ; our culture is now 6 years old and have offspring all over the world already. We gladly gift this culture to any guest who is interested in baking their own sour-dough bread.
Our Veg Patch is a huge part of Brejo Tribe life. We were lucky to receive it clean of chemicals (it has been lying dormant for at least 20 years before we accepted the job as Caretakers) and packed with good quality soil.
We LOVE nature and the amazing natural eco system. So we endeavour to eat seasonal (and prevent help creating a market for imported foods, when there is such an abundance of quality tasty local produce in central Portugal) This also extends to our lifestyle, so we do not use poisons and chemicals.
We grow a huge variety of veggies, which feeds the two of us all year round, because we process many of them into pickles, chutneys, pesto etc. But we plant plenty more to use for the retreats too.
Kobi is a yoga and meditation practitioner and teacher, a nutritional and holistic health counselor and life coach. Kobi was born in Israel in 1981 and has a degree in Comparative Religion (Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism and Western Philosophy) from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has also studied with Jewish mystics in various Kabala Centers throughout Israel.
As a life long student, Kobi has trained with great yoga masters around the world—mostly in India, Thailand and Israel. He has extensive experience and education in varying styles of yoga including Ashtanga Vinyasa, Kundalini, Hatha, Yin and Iyengar. He also studied Thai Yoga Massage at Wat Po in Thailand. Having a great passion for health and nutrition, he continued studying various nutrition-based healing methods including—raw food, ayurveda, integrated nutrition and a natural hygiene nutrition method which are all incorporated in Vagabond Temple’s detox programs.
As both a life coach and social worker, Kobi has helped people of all ages and nationalities make critical changes in their behavior and outlook including at-risk teenagers and people suffering from mental illness and addictions. He focuses on self-empowerment, building life skills, and rehabilitation to enable changes in others. At Vagabond Temple, Kobi uses his extensive theoretical knowledge complemented with years of practical experience in gently guiding people on their path to self-realization.
Pazit is a yoga and meditation practitioner and teacher, a life coach and holistic healing therapist specializing in reiki, sound healing, and reflexology as well as self-development through theater. Pazit was born in Israel in 1976 and has degrees in both Performance Arts as well as Education from the David Yalin Institute in Jerusalem. At twenty, Pazit’s solo travels through India introduced her to Eastern Philosophy and a new way of life, igniting her journey on the path of self-discovery. Pazit’s experiences and studies in reiki, yoga, meditation and tantra inspired her to develop and build her own dedicated practice. She is a certified reflexologist (Reidaman Institute in Jerusalem) and completed numerous studies in Reiki, including Usui traditional method, Jewish Reiki, Tibetan Reiki and Pranic Healing. These studies culminated in 2012 when she was initiated as a Reiki Master in Thailand.
Throughout the years, she has taken part in a variety of Tibetan Buddhism courses as well as Goenka Vipassana and other Buddhist retreats. While deepening her yoga practice, she became a certified yoga teacher at Yoga Vidya Gurukul in Nasik, India, as well as a Kundalini yoga teacher as taught by Yogi Bhajan.
Pazit has a broad range of experience in teaching, leading group workshops, personal coaching and alternative healing. She worked as a teacher and coach with teenagers at risk for several years and has over a decade of experience teaching self-development through theater for individuals and groups. For over ten years, she has practiced reflexology, reiki and pranic healing while teaching Reiki Level I, II and Master courses since 2012.
