Our 2019 retreat at Eden Leisure Village was such a success, we’re heading back in 2020 to do it all over again! We loved the glamping village – so accessible, but so peaceful. We were lucky with the weather last year, so fingers crossed for sunshine again!
Although Pause & Breathe are holding the retreat, there will be a variety of different wellbeing facilitators also offering different practices. These will be confirmed nearer the time, but will include both practices that incorporate movement and ones that involve meditation. All of the practices offered will be suitable for absolute beginners. This weekend is really a chance to try something different. Last year I had the chance to try several things for the first time (including kundalini yoga and laughter yoga!). There will be mindfulness and qi gong practices incorporated for sure.
We have the whole of the Eden Leisure Village glamping site to ourselves. As well as the huts that provide our sleeping accommodation, we have a large Barn area where we will be having our practice sessions. There's also a private kitchen, dinning and lounge area which are available at any time throughout the day. The site also has a BBQ hut, which we will hire for evening entertainment on one of the nights.
The site is situated in beautiful countryside, you wouldn't know how close we are to civilisation. On the site there are two areas of woodland, perfect for walking and exploring. Each of the glamping huts has it's own picnic table outside, and its own fire pit - so there are plenty of places to sit and chill out, particularly if we have the weather than we had in 2019.
Eden Leisure Village explain their name this way:
Eden – means a place of complete bliss, delight and peace
Leisure – means a time when we are not working, and we have some free time to do what we enjoy
Village – is a community of friends and family helping one another.
The accommodation is a variety of hobbit huts, glamping pods and a glamping bus. The expectation is that folk will share – so if there’s someone you want to share with, please let us know. Some of the huts have double beds – please let us know if you’d like to book in for one of these. Bedding is only provided in the hobbit huts, which have double beds in them. However, you can organise hiring bedding directly from the campsite, if bringing your own is problematic.
We will be having a variety of facilitators leading practices over the weekend – these will be confirmed nearer the time. There will definitely be mindfulness and qi gong. In 2019 we also had: meditation; a sound journey; a sunrise meditation; kundalini yoga; mindful walking; a gong sound bath; laughter yoga and more! If you are a facilitator and would like to offer something, let us know.
As the retreat is so short, there isn’t much free time to head out and explore. We hope that folk will stay together in the main, however, all sessions are optional (just let us know if you won’t be with us). We plan to have a mindful walking session (weather dependent), which will enable us to explore some of the surrounding area.
Please note that the retreat will be alcohol and substance free. Please only come along if you can commit to this for the whole time that we are together.
All meals are provided - this is from dinner on Friday night, to breakfast on Sunday morning. We should be able to cater for most dietary requirements, but please confirm this at the time of booking. It may be difficult to cater for extreme allergies, as there is only one kitchen on site - but do get in contact to discuss.
Our menu is likely to be a mix of cereals, yoghurts and toast for breakfast; jacket potato with various fillings for lunch and a vegetarian meal for dinner. Snacks (including fruit) and hot drinks are always available.
Susie Hooper - Pause & Breathe
Susie was introduced to mindfulness through her work as a Social Worker, in Criminal Justice. As well as suggesting this to clients, Susie started to practice mindfulness herself (around 8 years ago). She found that through practising, she became more attuned to her own emotions, which helped her to attune more closely to other's too. Susie undertook training to share her mindfulness practice with others, and has been teaching in her local community for the last few years. This has included previous retreats.
Phil Blackburn - Pause & Breathe
Phil has trained in martial arts for over 40 years, coaching throughout Europe. More recently, he has added Qi Gong into his own practice and has been teaching this within his local community for the last couple of years. Qi Gong can be seen as a form of mindful movement. Phil focuses on energy when he teaches, and has been using different energy forms in his martial arts for many years.
